Baz Luhrmann at his finest. This terrific film is really three movies in one. First, there’s the sizable dance movie whcih centers on Scott Hastings (Paul Mecurio) and his struggles to introduce ‘new steps’ to the sheltered world of Austrailian ballroom dancing. For dance afficiandos, despite the mammoth comedy that infuses the movie, the dancing is the proper thing. Mecurio is a formally trained dancer and you simply can’t untrue, edit, or body-double the moves he pulls off in this film. Even if you’re not a dancer, Mecurio’s athletiscism alone is worth seeing.

The second movie is a Dirty Dancing-style, boy-meets-ugly-duckling epic. The fable allows you to perceive leisurely the covers of a first generation Australian and her awkward attempts to fit into a original culture while maintaining her European ties at home.

The third movie is what sets Strictly Ballroom apart from the field – tremendously comical, ample caricatures squabbling around the periphery of Scott and his struggle to bring his ‘new steps’ to the Pan-Pacific Championships. Pat Thompson is hysterical as Doug’s mother Shirley, and Bill Hunter is wonderfully over-the-top as dancing kingmaker Barry Fife (‘There are no recent steps!’) . But attention first-time viewers – maintain your eyes on Barry Otto as Scott’s father, Doug Hastings. This peculiar, seemingly shell of a man is actually the emotional core of the film. He provides the movies funniest moments (particularly – as other reviewers have alluded to – a flashback sequence so over-the-top hilarious that it defies description) and its most relevatory ones.

Play this film over and over again and you will never be disappointed.

This Australian gem is one of those rare films that entertains, thrills and pokes fun at an established activiity (in this case, a ballroom dance federation) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Strictly Ballroom! Click Here

To rob this film seriously is to miss out on one of the immense moviegoing/ moviewatching experiences of the past 15 years.

In a nutshell, an up-and-coming champion ballroom dancer gets bored dancing the same tired steps that everyone has danced in competition the past 50 years and wants to rupture out and do things his scheme. Of course, his plan is the better diagram, but that causes all the angst, high drama, dashed hopes and snarl hilarity that ensues as forces clash to prevent the young man from taking the ballroom dancing world by storm and up to a unusual level.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Strictly Ballroom! Click Here

Of course, it’s what we’ve all, always, expected: Things don’t change in such events because those who assume and thunder can only judge/teach that with which they are familiar.

The cast is perfect, from the dashing young lead embodied by Australian ballet important Paul Mercurio to the alarmed, at-first clumsy female lead played by Tara Morice (who also lends her vocals to Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” in a fine rooftop pas de deux as she starts learning how to dance with him) .

Paul’s mother — beautifully and hysterically portrayed by Pat Thomson — and his seemingly introverted, peculiar father — a wonderfully giddy Barry Otto — are perfectly realized, as are all the other roles, including Bill Hunter’s terrifically change-resistant Barry Fife, president of the dance federation.

This is probably Baz Luhrmann’s most mainstream movie, since it’s more firmly grounded in the now than anything else he’s done.

Be on the lookout for a beautiful cinematic moment during an outdoor sequence at the girl’s house with the lead learning from her father how to correctly dance the Paso Dobles. When it’s distinct he’s gotten the hang of it, the camera does a closeup on him turning and then cuts to an oncoming command, that parallels the house, sweeping down the lower suitable of the cover. It’s one of those Luhrmann touches that plot him apart from most other working directors.

“Strictly Ballroom” is a incredible entertainment that flows along so lickety-split..and has dramatic highs…and even more thrilling dancing highs…that most of you will be very sorry when it’s over.

But never terror…it holds up very well on order viewings. It’s one of my most-played videos.

I enjoyed this Anime collection very great. You can score other reviews that will enlighten you all you could want to know about the account and boom. So in summation it was laughable and palatable.

Buy it broken-down. One sage that ties togather a few loose ends from the two series, My Z-Hime and My Hime, is not worth stout note in my understanding.

Buy,Download, Or Stream My-Zhime: My-Otome Zwei! Click Here

Needless to say, If you liked the TV series, you’re gonna admire this one. The main advantage of watching anime movies and OVAs is that as opposed to a fat size TV series, the animators have substantially less episodes and scenes to utilize their budget on, and as a result, you will not ogle any of the recycled or simplified animation sequences you ogle in anime sometimes.

What this means to you, is that when you notice My-Otome Zwei (Being an OVA), you will savor an all-new account, featuring the characters you already know and appreciate (not to mention the same fantastic sountrack from My-Otome/My Hime), plus the added bonus of a markedly more fluid, intelligent animation, and considerable more solid, more dynamic battle sequences; all of this ultimately makes the characters and the narrative feel even more titillating and beefy of life than before, and thus it makes the experience noteworthy more scrumptious.

In short, you’ll have everything you already like and more.

Red Wolf was a radiant decent movie directed by Yuen Woo-Ping, but don’t be expecting anything spectacular.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Red Wolf! Click Here

The movie has plenty of gun-firing, martial arts action, and people dying to satisfy anybody that’s entertained by that kind of stuff. The plotline was simple, but plausible – unbiased enough to give the protaganists something to fight for.

When watching the movie in Cantonese, be prepared for some English dubbing thrown in. Although some of the actors in this film are American, I don’t look why they felt a need to dub over some of the things they were saying into English when they were clearly speaking Cantonese. Even the Oriental actors had some English dubbing. It’s a bit annoying and somewhat comical seeing their mouths recede when nothing is being said due to abominable dubbing, but it’s done only a few times, so it’s not too destracting of the film.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Red Wolf! Click Here

Character development is minimal, so don’t be expecting to weep over any of the characters. But the characters unexcited have their obvious personalities and the actors play their roles well enough, so the movie rolls along at a nice wander. There’s some humor thrown in for great measure, a miniature bit of suspense to support you on the edge a small bit, and plenty of fighting to hold the movie inspiring – even some moments where you’re saying to yourself – “Ouch!” Fair don’t go in expecting an award winner and you’ll be pleased.

This is a Dismal Belt Theatre double feature! Red Wolf directed

by PING and Awakening Punch fight choreographer by PING! Are these movies satisfactory! Red Wolf is a 1994 film that is like a very violent Under Seige! But a far as action goes, Red Wolf is a thousand times better! Epic wise, it’s not that large! But it does have Christy Chung in here! She’s a hot number! You gather to leer a finish up on her butt which is reason enough to engage this! Red Wolf is in modern language with Chinese/English subs.! Awakening Punch is an early-mid 70′s kung fu film! The kung fu in this one is fine generous! But 2 things not to like about this

movie is unpleasant characterize (especially on the night fights to where you only notice shadows and all that) and a very retarded yarn! Awakened Punch is english dub! QUALITY – The DVD plays how it’s snort to! They did nothing to improve the represent! There are no extras, but this product is cheap! I liked Red Wolf and Awakening Punch was average at best!

I was pleasantly surprised to net that I actually like the movie better than the book. My only disappointments were that the movie is device too short and that Colin Firth is not on-screen nearly enough.

The entire cast does a astounding job of bringing Bridget Jones’s quirky world to life. Renee Zellweger effectively portrays Bridget Jones as slightly ridiculous but lovable, and Hugh Grant and Colin Firth are perfect in their respective roles. It’s certainly nice to perceive Hugh Grant finally buy a crash from the foppish, stuttering, self-deprecating persona he’s been cultivating ever since Four Weddings & a Funeral—and his original buff glance (as made evident in the lake/wet shirt scene) isn’t unpleasant either! I only wish the writers had approach up with a reason to have Colin shirtless (or at least wet!)

As distinguished as I enjoyed the movie, the reason I and my friends have already seen it several times and will assume the DVD the day it comes out is Colin Firth and his quietly (but devastatingly) mesmerizing performance. Several critics have commented that Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth have no chemistry, but I beg to differ. That very palpable chemistry (The contrivance he looks at her when she’s interviewing him? The incredibly charming cooking scene? The scene arrive the slay where he leans down to kiss her on the cheek before she runs off to change into “genuinely limited knickers”? ) is what makes the ultimate resolution of the movie so satisfying.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bridget Jones’s Diary! Click Here

Having long been a fan of British films, I’ve always been aware of Colin Firth as an accomplished actor (e.g., Another Country, A Month in the Country, Valmont), but it wasn’t until Pride & Prejudice that it dawned on me that he was also incredibly splendid. He then went on to play rather unappealing characters in such films as Circle of Friends, The English Patient and Shakespeare in Esteem, and, me being the fickle fan that I am, forgot about my crush on him . . . until now. As a “serious actor,” he seems to resolve roles that will “challenge” him, and unfortunately for us besotted fans, they are often unattractive villains and cuckolds. But I’ve approach to realize that the fact that he is so successful at masking his undeniable attractiveness is a testament to his improbable acting ability.

It was definite from Disney’s marketing and PR campaign that they felt Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant would be the only draws here in the U.S., but I know a lot of people who went to observe the movie because of Colin Firth. I can only hope this film will rep him the recognition of audiences (and studios) beyond the legions of women who fell in adore with him in P&P. It’d certainly be unbelievable to sight him fulfill his promise as a leading man (a la Ralph Fiennes and Russell Crowe) and leave all those “character actor” roles slack him.

It looks like Working Title Films is already talking with Renee Zellweger about making the film version of “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.” Apparently, she’s only enthusiastic if she doesn’t have to accumulate weight again. Let’s preserve our fingers crossed that Colin Firth’s desire to pursue more spirited roles doesn’t support him from signing on for the sequel. I can’t imagine anyone else playing the role of Ticket Darcy.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bridget Jones’s Diary! Click Here

Finally, I’d unbiased like to say that I wholeheartedly agree with other IMDB/Amazon users who’ve described Colin Firth as “sex on a stick,” “dreamy,” “swoonsome,” “a revelation,” “blooming,” “appetizing,” “riveting” and weak-knee inducing. I wonder how many of us will be trekking to London next year to view him on-stage in Hamlet? Instruct . . .

Dissatisfied at age 32 with the direction her life is taking, a young woman vows to do some changes, and to support herself on track she decides to begin a daily journal, hoping it will perform her toe the line, in “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” directed by Sharon Maguire and starring Renee Zellweger. Bridget (Zellweger) begins with some Novel Year’s resolutions that include no more drinking or smoking, not being paranoid about her weight, and developing poise. And– last, but not least– to avoid any romantic attachments to alcoholics, workaholics, peeping Toms or perverts. Of course she promptly falls for the one man she knows who embodies all of those characteristics: Her boss, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) . In the meantime, her mother, Pam (Gemma Jones), continues to play matchmaker for her daughter. At a holiday gathering of friends and family, Pam nudges her in the direction of an faded childhood chum, Notice Darcy (Colin Firth), now a capable attorney, and recently divorced. Their initial meeting, however, proves to be a less than monumental event, further complicated by the fact that Cleaver was Darcy’s Best Man at his wedding, and has some tales-out-of-school to screech about the subsequently ill fated marriage that puts Darcy in a rather terrible light. But Bridget could care less; she thinks Darcy is crude and a bore, and anyway, Daniel is her guy. Work is safe, her life is going well and– as she is about to wake up and realize– she hasn’t kept a single one of her resolutions. And, oh! she should have.

First time director Maguire proves with this auspicious debut that she certainly knows her territory and how to negotiate it. She has the touch and the witness for detail of a seasoned professional, and her sense of timing is impeccable. She successfully avoids a major pitfall that do in many rookie directors honest out of the chute, by never fishing for the cheap, forced, disdainfully pretentious or concocted laugh. Everything in this film, especially the humor, flows freely and naturally from the circumstances of the characters and the fable, which makes it all actual and believable and allows it to be readily embraced by the audience. This is a droll, often hilarious movie, but it’s also very warm and at times poignant, and for handling it so sensibly, and with such sensitivity, Maguire deserves to be granted even more kudos. It’s quite simply an exceptionally well made film, presented with a style and grace that reflects that of the director herself.

Of course, having a superlative leading lady was certainly not disadvantageous to Maguire’s efforts, either, and Renee Zellweger has never been better than she is here as Bridget. With her quirky sterling looks, personality and charisma, she is endearing, and she invades Meryl Streep territory by affecting a perfect British accent. Whether she’s lip-syncing to a Celine Dion song, doing karaoke at an office party after having a bit too worthy to drink, or battling with a blender, it’s easy to acquire that someone would like her honest the arrangement she is. Even with her hair mussed, or in a somewhat disheveled set, she’s alluring, and it all has to do with who she is deep down inside; Zellweger makes it obvious that this is a woman of substance, and it’s easy to like her. There’s a down-to-earth honesty and accessibility about her that makes her inspiring, and she’s someone to whom many in the audience are easily going to be able to record. For her portrayal of Betty in “Nurse Betty,” Zellweger received a Golden Globe; “Bridget” should land her smack in the middle of Oscar territory.

As Bridget’s smarmy boss, Daniel, Hugh Grant turns in a worthy performance, putting a rather tarnished sheen on his natural charm that works so well for this character. It’s a nice departure from his usual bumbling, reserved Mr. Nice Guy routine he perfected in such films as “Notting Hill,” and “Four Weddings and A Funeral.” With this role he challenges Greg Kinnear’s share in “Someone Like You” for the top station in the Boss-You-Should-Never-Date category. And Firth does a memorable turn as Darcy, fairly reprising his role of the same name in the PBS miniseries, “Pride and Prejudice,” from which this chronicle is loosely derived. Initially appearing a bit changeable, he gets the chance to earn his character as the tale unfolds, and he does it quite nicely, ultimately revealing Darcy’s moral nature.

In a supporting role, Gemma Jones gives a performance that deserves mention, doing a trustworthy job of fleshing out Bridget’s mother in the brief time she is allotted. Rounding out the supporting cast are Crispin Bonham-Carter (Greg), Jim Broadbent (Colin Jones), James Callis (Tom), Sally Phillips (Shazzer), Honor Blackman (Penny), Embeth Davidtz (Natasha), Shirley Henderson (Jude) and Celia Imrie (Una) . A warmly silly, uplifting film, “Bridget Jones’s Diary” is a enjoyable and satisfying experience with more than a touch of magic in it. Not only is it an enchanting showcase for Zellweger’s many talents, but heralds the arrival of a director from whom we can query broad things in the future, Sharon Maguire. A well crafted, reality based comedy/drama that is savory and refreshingly devoid of inane nonsense or foul jokes is a rare catch these days, and this is one of the best to hit the cloak in a long, long time. It’s a film to be heartily embraced, and one I guarantee you’ll want to peek more than once.

Along with the above episodes, this DVD also contains a featurette called “Alfred Hitchcock Presents: A Witness Support” on the prove. Compared to the Season Sets of “The Twilight Zone” (which ranges from $75-100), I feel the impress for this DVD is very decent and is worth buying.

All in all, this is a broad release and I hope Universal will continue releasing more seasons of this reveal in the future.

I haven’t seen “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” since it was last shown on TV Land quite a few years aid. This display is one of the best anthology series ever and deserves to be shown and enjoyed. Thankfully Universal has seen fit to release season one on DVD. All 39 episodes (yes, 39!) of this extraordinary point to.

The one constant element throughout the series is the presence of Alfred Hitchcock with his dry, macabre sense of humor. This prove made the well-respected film director a substantial TV personality of the 50s and 60s. It was share of his deal with CBS that he would philosophize many of the episodes but as it turned out he directed only 17 segments during the series entire speed.

Many illustrious actors from film and television made appearances on the note during it’s race. In this season one location you can inquire of to scrutinize Aunt Bea (Frances Bavier), John Forsythe, Cloris Leachman, Joseph Cotten, Peter Lawford, Barry Fitzgerald, Carolyn Jones, John Cassavetes, Charles Bronson, Claude Rains and many others. There was also a bit of nepotism afoot as Pat Hichcock made numerous appearances on her dad’s exhibit. Fortunately, she was a attractive splendid actress.

The episodes are based on gargantuan short stories by writers such as Alexander Woollcott, Ambrose Bierce, Cornell Woolrich, Frederic Brown, Henry Slesar, H.H. Munro (aka Saki), John Cheever, John Collier, John Wyndham, Ray Bradbury, Robert Bloch and Roald Dahl. Yes, that’s the same Roald Dahl who wrote those absorbing children’s stories (you’ve heard of Willy Wonka, I presume) . He wrote one of the series most illustrious episodes “Lamb to the Slaughter.”

I have read that Hitchcock actually filmed two openings and closings for each episode. The ones Americans are familiar with feature Hitch sarcastically commenting on the show’s sponsors and TV in general. The other openings and closings were created for the European market and featured Hitch poking fun at Americans. I don’t know if any of these alternate scenes are included but they would be fun to view.

A notice trace of under $30 for 39 episodes of “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” is a large bargain compared to the ridiculously overpriced “The Twilight Zone” seasons. As distinguished as I like “The Twilight Zone” I refuse to pay those prices. As for “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” I’ll be the first in line to fall my $30 for these titanic shows.

Many have tried to dismiss this film as nothing more than a comedic vehicle for Robin Williams. The notion of making light of the horrors of war, particularily Vietnam since it’s aloof so original in the minds of many turns alot of viewers off to the primary potential lessons to be learned in this wonderfully insightful movie.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Good Morning, Vietnam! Click Here

Based on the correct life accounts of Air Force officer and D.J. Adrian Cronauer we accept a birds’ glimpse idea into the strict and ridiculous bureaucracy that can at times reign over military policy and in conclude hamper the morale and efforts of the American military.

Cronauer provided a mighty needed spontaneity to the air waves of Vietnam radio and brought however briefly to the American soldiers the contemporary music they wanted to hear. There is alot to laugh at in this film, what else could you inquire with the likes of Robin Williams in the lead role. However there is great more going on than what first meets the witness. The concepts of acceptance, friendship, trust and admire soon become entangled into the comedic elements which lead to the dim and poignant realization that cultural differences can’t always be overcome by sterling intentions. A bittersweet truth so poignantly conveyed by the radiant Trinh when rebuffing the romantic advances of Cronauer with the statement, “Vietnam ladies not friends.”

This film will definitely design you laugh. It will also earn you yowl and even more importantly accomplish you consider. In the final analysis that’s what it’s all about. There are many astounding performances in this movie complimenting Robin Williams incredible tour-de-force. My two favorites are Tung Than Tran as ‘Phan’ and Chintara Sukapatana as ‘Trinh.’

Highly Recommended!!

My 1* rating is for the DVD, not the movie which is 5*.

Most poeople will have seen this film on video and tv and enjoyed it, some of you old-fashioned folks may have even seen it at the cinema. I consider that this is a enormous film and it belongs in my favourite collection.

A lot of reviews here talk about the film so I wont. I impartial bought the DVD and watched it, although I have the video as well.

The report quality was unpleasant, fuzzy and grainy in many places, and I mean the relate, not the mpeg compression.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Good Morning, Vietnam! Click Here

It was possible in quite a few places to perceive the mpeg rings. The sound was average, not gleaming but not bad.

There are no proper extra features to talk about.

So given that this movie has a mountainous following in many countries I would have expected the DVD conversion crew to have done a powerful better job.

With no extras and not been a really long film there is no reason to allow compression rings to be visible, where they are visible the conversion people unprejudiced have to lower the compression rate for that section, and us the viewers would never know.

It appears that all they did was to copy the dilapidated movie onto a DVD without any pain, shimmering that many people will catch the DVD. I consider that the video copy I have matches the DVD for narrate quality, not for sound of course.

If you have Valid Morning Vietnam on video admire it and assign yourself £15 ($20) . Maybe in the future a ‘special’ anniversary edition will be released that the producers will have invested both time and money in to give us a DVD worth buying, of course they could objective release it again as is for all us muggs to be ripped off again.

First, to bask in the background gradual “Hurry Lola Race” it helps to have some perspective on recent German society. Here are some observations to site the stage:

For most Germans, if they well in school or learn a trade, and are willing to work hard and pay their dues, they will be rewarded with a dilapidated, comfortable lifestyle. They will have 6 weeks vacation, appreciate inexpensive holiday resorts, live in a comfortable if little flat, have paid medical care, and eventually mortgage themselves for fifty years to select a house or their gain flat. Und–they VILL devour it!

However, for those people living in the sections that were formerly communist East Germany, unemployment is higher, and all over Germany, if anyone has a dysfunctional family, or has some kind of predicament, or honest doesn’t fit in, life can be very tough and very hopeless. This is the region that a lot of young people pick up themselves in, especially around Berlin, Halle, Magdeburg and other of the larger, more scared German urban areas.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Run Lola Run! Click Here

Now, this is the backdrop for Lola and her boyfriend Manni. Manni is beginning a promising career as a drug dealer, making his first regain. He is on the point of delivering the bag of cash to the mob boss. Never mind that this dinky career depart will most likely land him 15 years in prison followed by a lifetime of being shunned and being practically unemployable; that is, if he survives the police hunt for his sorry arse. But Manni feels hopeless and trapped, so what’s the risk? Lola, who comes from a wealthy but dysfunctional Berlin family, is needy and alive to to attend her Manni. Neither quiz the outcome of their actions.

Yes, they both goof up, Lola forgets her assignment and goes off for a pack of smokes, Manni panics and now his very life is on the line. And Lola volunteers to benefit, putting her life on the line, though she doesn’t realize that she is in pain. She has twenty minutes to solve this life-and-death stutter. And she DOES it, while filmed like a rock video in flashes, running like a madwoman through Berlin to obtain to the prize.

If you don’t like the outcome, the inevitable, the gloomy, unprejudiced wait a puny, the filmmaker, god that he is, can change all that for you. If you want a fairy godmother, he’s prepared to be one for you. Unbiased wail like an infant, as Lola does, and director Tom Tykwer will grant your wish. If you then don’t like that particular wave of his magic wand, well, wait another slight. But don’t behold too closely, or you will witness an accusation that actions DO have consequences.

Though filmed creatively and in burst-like flashes, the record is completely coherent and even has a factual, or two, or three.

As to the film itself, it is better letterboxed to delight in the cinematography. The subtitles are proper, though the swears and other unfavorable epithets are made a bit milder than actually they are in vernacular German–perhaps because they leer stunning stark when printed rather than spoken. This is a film that is worth seeing quite a few times to purchase up the nuances and missed frames–you can’t blink for a second because you will miss something indispensable.

HIGHLY Recommended –entertaining, yet marvelous for family discussions about choices in life.

Run Lola Speed is the type of frenzied arthouse recount that fair doesn’t accept made here in North America. That’s really a shame because Hurry Lola Bustle is definitley one of the best movies of the year. From a cinematic point of concept “Lola” is one of the most creative and energetic films that I have ever seen.

The set revolves around Lola, a woman who has twenty minutes to build her boyfriend’s life from German gangsters. To do this she must miraculously catch 100,000 Marks.

The film is appropriately titled as Lola really does rush for practically the entire film. When she does not succeed in saving her boyfriend the movie cuts support to the opening sequence and the film plays out yet again in an entirely different fashion. The central conception is that slight variations in behaviour can change the entire outcome of a residence. This concept was also explored in “Sliding Doors”, unfortunately, with far more mixed results.

Eventually the cycle repeats itself three times over the movies one hour twenty diminutive shroud time. Accelerate Lola Bustle is objective bubbling with creative ideas and really is a splendid dawdle. The action never really lets up (except in a brief bed scene) and is filmed in the kind of frenetic, crazy style that MTV would be proud of. Lola is also extremely comic in many parts especially when the film briefly delves into the future’s of various minute characters.

This is a perfect minute film that stands up to repeated viewings. It is lustrous, bright and is something that is completely new. Hollywood movies rarely have those three qualities, this German one does.
